Live from our farms

Farming is so much more than planting and growing; our business involves working closely to protect the environment with the use of complex machinery. Innovation is at the heart of our evolution and we are closely involved in cutting-edge scientific research.  Our staff are developing our business every day and over time this has become a fascinating history that plots the developments of a farming business.  We are fortunate to have this history in archives that date back to 1890.  This archive has been used in the press and on TV to explain how farming practices have changed in the UK and, in particular, in the watercress industry.

Every year we host children and visitors on our farms to explain how watercress is grown and how our interaction with water, wildlife and farming affects our daily lives.

The visits are by far the best way to understand the crop and practice techniques such as bunching watercress or planting seeds, but we also have a wealth of other ways to help provide an understanding and experience that will enrich and broaden the knowledge of rural business through our website and social media resources.

We are very fortunate in Dorset to have our own rural skills college (Kingston Maurward College) only a few miles away from our business and in Hampshire we have Sparsholt College just outside Winchester.  These specialist FE and HE colleges offer fantastic skills-based educational courses but we firmly believe the interest in rural careers can start earlier in first schools.
